  1. Summary of Marketing and Membership Working Group Meeting 30/01/13

The meeting was attended by 7 members, including chairmen of interests committees, and 6 sent their apologies. The meeting focused on motivation and communication with members. Six issues to improve members’ experiences of the Society were discussed and taken forward for action. In addition a series of SANHS Prestige Lectures is being investigated for 2014 as are ways of making more accessible the work of people who receive support from the Society. A programme of SANHS Awards for excellence in championing Somerset’s Heritage is being investigated and the SANHS President’s Photographic Competition is set to take place.
Work continues to raise the Society’s profile at seminars and public events around the county with displays at the Philip Rahtz Memorial Conference in Cheddar and the Severn Estuary Levels Research Committee (SELRC) symposium at Street starting the year. A programme has been drawn up to aid coordination and events will now be shown on the Society’s web calendar. Improvements are being made to the Society’s events support material and membership and event support administration.
The response from subject committees to the Trustees’ request to involve younger people in their events and to transfer knowledge and skills continues to be strong with all committed to programmes for this year.
The next meeting, due on Wednesday, 27 February at SHC, will include a review of progress on the SANHS Prestige Lectures and committees’ involvement with them. Committee chairmen are invited to attend this meeting.
