  1. Summary of M&MWG meeting 27/11/12

The meeting was attended by 10 members including chairmen of interests committees, Chris Jessop as an interested party and 4 sent their apologies. The meeting focused on co-ordination of the many meetings and events in which the Society is involved to raise its profile as much as possible. M&MWG’s role is to assist with this and advise as required. Organisation and running of events and managing the raising of the Society’s profile through these is the responsibility of committees who should seek the assistance of other members as required. Without this the activities identified on the M&MWG programme will not have the desired outcome.
The Society’s publicity officer seeks to raise the profile of the society through publicising newsworthy ‘stories’ and should be consulted when a committee’s planned activities extend into the wider public arena.
The schedule of committees’ programmes of events will be co-ordinated by Chris Jessop in future and the website calendar will be taken as definitive. Committees have been allocated weeks of the month in which their meetings should be arranged. The timetable for the spring 2013 newsletter has been set.
Who will ensure that the Society has an appropriate profile at several of the conferences and meetings of interest during 2013 was identified and the programme (some of which does not appear in the calendar) was updated.
Committee chairmen were asked to ensure that their groups’ programmes support the Trustees’ prime objectives for the Society. Use of the Nettlecombe Estate may have a part in this.
David Bromwich is to hold a meeting for new members. Chris Sidaway and Mary Ewing have an opportunity to form a historic buildings research group for West Somerset and this will be done in co-operation with SVBRG. Membership statistics have been cleansed and the focus on movements in membership continues. Other initiatives continue.
The next meeting, due on Wednesday, 30 January at SHC, will review the motivation of SANHS members and communication with them. Committee chairmen are invited to attend this meeting if they wish.
